How to tell if your child is burned out

Sports are a fantastic way for kids to stay healthy and build character, but sometimes the pressure can become too much. Physical and emotional exhaustion, often referred to as "burnout," is a real concern in youth sports.

Here are some key indicators that your young athlete might need a break from intense training:

  • Loss of interest: They no longer want to go to practice or games.
  • Chronic fatigue: They are constantly tired, even after resting.
  • Frequent injuries: Their body isn't recovering properly between sessions.
  • Mood swings: Increased irritability, anxiety, or sadness related to their sport.

If you notice these signs, it's important to have an open conversation with your child. Let them know it's okay to take a break or explore other activities. Remember, the primary goal of youth sports should always be fun and personal development.
